After sitting out 2025 and 2026, Sacramento’s GoldenSky Festival is returning with Zach Bryan, Megan Moroney, and a new commitment to its future.

GoldenSky is returning to Sacramento, California, after a two-year absence, but the story behind its comeback goes beyond the artists on the lineup. The country music festival will return to Discovery Park on October 9–10, 2027, with Zach Bryan and Megan Moroney leading a bill that includes Treaty Oak Revival, Whiskey Myers, Ty Myers, Hudson Westbrook, Wyatt Flores, and several other artists. For a festival that hasn’t taken place since 2024, the announcement represents a significant return to an increasingly competitive country music market.

GoldenSky launched in 2022 and quickly established itself as a major country music event in Northern California. Its first three editions featured performers including Tim McGraw, Sam Hunt, Eric Church, Keith Urban, and Luke Bryan. By 2024, the festival had expanded from two days to three and attracted approximately 75,000 attendees. Despite that growth, organizers announced that GoldenSky would not return in 2025, pointing to an oversaturated country festival market and difficulties securing major artists. The pause was later extended through 2026, with promoter Danny Wimmer Presents explaining that additional time was needed to bring the event back at the level audiences expected.

The circumstances surrounding GoldenSky’s absence raise an interesting question about the festival industry. Country music continues to attract large audiences, but that popularity has also created more competition among festivals trying to secure many of the same performers. Booking recognizable headliners, coordinating touring schedules, and building a lineup capable of attracting enough ticket buyers can be difficult, even for established events. GoldenSky’s two-year absence demonstrates how growing demand for country music doesn’t automatically guarantee that every festival can maintain an annual schedule.

For its return, GoldenSky is going back to a two-day format with a lineup that reflects several different directions in country music. Zach Bryan and Megan Moroney bring substantial mainstream recognition, while artists such as Treaty Oak Revival, Whiskey Myers, and Wyatt Flores represent the growing influence of Red Dirt, Americana, and country-rock. The festival’s return also comes with a three-year commitment to Discovery Park, with editions planned for 2027, 2028, and 2029. Organizers are introducing additional camping, hospitality, and food experiences as part of the relaunch.

GoldenSky’s comeback will be worth watching beyond its opening weekend. After two years away, the festival has secured major performers and a longer-term agreement with Sacramento, but its return will also test whether those changes are enough to establish a more sustainable future. The festival is scheduled for October 9–10, 2027, at Discovery Park, with tickets available through the official GoldenSky website.
